Health Benefits Transition Known Glitches/Issues
Posted On: Jan 13, 2025

With the transition to the Postal Service Health Benefits system from the Federal Employee Health Benefits system, we knew there would be some glitches. Your Health Plan Director, Legislative Director, President Dimondstein, and others worked hard to mitigate and address problems as soon as we were aware of them as well as worked hard to prevent potential issues during the transition. President Dimondstein has been in contact with the highest level of postal leadership to address the issues. The APWU has been promised by the highest levels of management that the Postal Service will go to extraordinary efforts to make sure no one goes without benefits and addresses the problems.

With that said, we have identified two issues that came up late last week and one discovered today. The first involves some folks have their dependents/spouses/Plus ones fall of the plans. The second involves employees having multiple deductions taken out of their paychecks dated January 17, 2025.

That is still being research and looking at how widespread the problems could be. We just wanted you all to be aware that we know there are problems, and we are working to address them..

I do not have much information on the dependent issue.

On the multiple deduction issue:

  • There is supposed to be two deductions
    • One for the last 4 days of the 2024 plan year
    • One for the first 10 days of the 2025 plan year
    • Some are reporting an additional deduction.

So people are getting “double dipped”. We have no idea of how widespread the issue is or if it is happening across all plans. I have been in contact with the Postal Service and they are trying to determine what happened and the width of the problem. I will continue to update you all as I get more information. Sarah Rodriguez and I are in constant contact with each other and sharing information. But we are aware of the issue and we are working hard to get the postal service to fix it.
