With the recent change in the top leadership of the USPS, directives have been put in place that will obviously slow the mail,
delay delivery of important parcels, letters, and flats. The APWU will not stand idly by as the new Postmaster General institutes
new procedures and operations that only harm the service you all proudly provide to the people in the United States and around
the world.
We are asking you all to contribute to this battle. We will be challenging these new procedures through all avenues by engaging
the communities at the grassroots level, informing the public through all means available including through the press and other media
options, through any legal avenues possible, through Congress, and of course through the grievance process as the local and national levels.
We are asking all of you to contribute to this fight by providing as much information as you can to us at a centralized national location.
We have set up an email box that we would like you to send your information on the delayed mail and destructive policies. This is in
addition to any other efforts already underway to share such information.
This email box is: DELAYEDMAIL@APWU.ORG
We would like you to send items related to delayed mail including:
ANY OFFICIAL REPORTS OF DELAYED MAIL
ANY UNOFFICIAL REPORTS OF DELAYED MAIL LOCAL UNIONS OR EMPLOYEES MAY HAVE
COPIES OF FORM PS-1571
ANY STAND-UP TALKS YOU ARE GIVEN ON CHANGES TO DISTRIBUTION PROCEDURES AND
DELIVERY PROCEDURES
ANY INTERNAL DOCUMENTS LIKE MANAGEMENT EMAILS YOU GET YOUR HANDS ON
COPIES OF CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS
NEWSPAPER ARTICLES/EDITORIALS THAT MAY APPEAR IN YOUR LOCAL PAPERS
LINKS TO ANY LOCAL NEWS STORIES
ANY ANECTODAL STORIES
EVIDENCE OF FRAUD—FALSIFIED SCANS, ETC.
ANYTHING ELSE YOU BELIEVE IS RELEVANT TO DELAYED MAIL
There will be additional emails sent out with more instructions as we identify specific report names, where to
find them/how to request them. We have people working on researching that information now.
When you send the emails and any attachments, we ask that you put at the top of the body of the email the
following identifying information:
Name of the Local Union the information is coming from
Name of the Postal Installation data is from
Name of the APWU Region the data is related to (Central, Eastern, Northeastern, Southern, Western)
The goal is to have a central clearing house of information and data that can be easily shared with locals and
our allies as we all work together in this fight.
Finally, we are asking for volunteers from around the country to become “watchers”. We are looking for
at least 50 people from all corners of the country to monitor their daily mail. These people must have
“informed delivery” service so that they can see what mail they are supposed to get each day. These
volunteers will then need to:
- Check their mail every day.
- Compare it to their informed delivery email they receive each day.
- Complete a delayed mail report and submit to the APWU each day.
- Possibly respond to “test” mail pieces that will be sent to you.
Those people interested in this and who can commit to following through each day please contact
Charlie Cash at ccash@apwu.org with your name, email, and city and state where you receive your mail.
Additional details will be provided to the volunteers as the program is finalized.
The changes made by the new Postmaster General are just a start to what we believe is a concerted effort
to slow the mail down and create a false narrative that the USPS must be privatized. This is fight we all
must be willing to participate in to protect not only our jobs and livelihoods put the National Treasure
we call the United States Postal Service.
